Decide about the NIPT and the 13-week scan
You are offered screening for chromosomal conditions (the NIPT blood test) and a 13-week scan that looks for physical conditions. Both are a choice, not an obligation. Checked against pns.nl on 22 September 2026.

What else to know
Your midwife offers a counselling talk first so you can decide what you do and do not want to know. You pay nothing for the NIPT or the scans, and they do not come out of your own risk excess (eigen risico). 2 things worth knowing: the 13-week scan is currently offered only as part of a research study (IMITAS), between 12+3 and 14+3 weeks, and if a result leads to follow-up tests such as an amniocentesis, those can come out of your eigen risico.
