Find out what your health cover actually pays towards the birth

Do this before you pick a hospital, not after. A normal delivery in a private hospital runs from about S$10,000 to S$30,000 with the doctor's fees, and as a foreigner the unsubsidised public rate is not far behind. What else to know

Employer group plans often include a maternity benefit, but the limit is commonly S$3,000 to S$6,000, and stand-alone maternity cover usually has a waiting period of a year or more, so a policy bought now will not pay for this pregnancy. Read the policy wording, ask HR exactly what is covered and whether the baby is added automatically, and plan the budget on what is left.
