What else to know

Between 11 and 14 weeks comes the first-trimester screening, a nuchal translucency scan with a blood test that estimates the chance of chromosomal conditions; the NIPT blood test is offered privately as a more accurate alternative and costs several hundred dollars on top. At 20 to 22 weeks the detailed anomaly scan checks the baby's organs and growth. In a package the routine scans are included; NIPT and any extra growth scans are billed separately, so ask what is in and what is not.
