Your maternity leave depends on the baby's citizenship, not yours. If the baby will be a Singapore citizen you get 16 weeks of Government-Paid Maternity Leave. Checked against profamilyleave.msf.gov.sg on 21 September 2026.

What else to know
If not — which is the case for most expat couples — you get 12 weeks under the Employment Act, provided you have worked for your employer for at least 3 months: the first 8 weeks paid by your employer, the last 4 unpaid. You can start up to 4 weeks before the due date. Give your employer at least a week's written notice before the leave starts, because without it the pay for the leave halves. Telling them earlier is usual and lets you agree the dates.
