What else to know

The public route runs through a polyclinic referral to KKH, NUH or SGH, but the subsidised rates are for citizens and permanent residents: as a foreigner you pay the unsubsidised rate in a public hospital, which is why many expats go straight to a private obstetrician (gynae) at Thomson, Mount Elizabeth or Gleneagles. Hospitals sell antenatal packages that bundle the routine visits and blood tests — KKH publishes its own from S$818 excluding GST, covering 6 consultations with bedside scans, one detailed 20-week scan and blood tests — and a package is usually cheaper than paying per visit. General information, not from KKH: the first visit is commonly at around 8 to 10 weeks and includes a dating scan. KKH publishes no single delivery price; it uses an estimated bill calculator instead.
