Get the baby a passport from your own country
A baby born in France to two foreign parents is not automatically French. The child needs a passport from your own country's consulate, and some consulates also want the birth registered with them, which is a separate application. What else to know
Ask yours before the birth what they need — usually the acte de naissance, both parents' passports and photographs — and how long they take, because it ranges from days to months. Nothing else, including travelling home to show the grandparents, can happen without it.
