The 42 days after a birth in Singapore
A baby born to two foreigners gets a Special Pass that lasts 42 days from birth. In that window you register the birth on LifeSG, get a passport from your own embassy, and have your employer apply for a Dependant's Pass. Checked 22 September 2026.
Start the embassy conversation before the birth — it is the slow step.
Register the birth within 42 days, on LifeSG
Two different deadlines apply here and they are not in conflict, so it is worth knowing which is which. The law is 42 days: ICA is the registrar, and failing to give your child's birth particulars within 42 days is an offence under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act. Checked against ica.gov.sg on 22 September 2026.

Get the baby a passport from your own country
Being born in Singapore does not by itself make a baby Singaporean — citizenship follows from a parent, and ICA is the authority on how — so for most expat families the child needs a passport from your own country, and the Special Pass issued with the birth registration only lasts 42 days. Apply for the baby's Dependant's Pass before the Special Pass runs out
Once the passport exists, your employer applies to the Ministry of Manpower for a Dependant's Pass for the baby through myMOM, in the same way as for a spouse. Do it within 6 weeks of the birth: any delay beyond 42 days from your child's birth is an offence under the Immigration Act. Checked against mom.gov.sg on 22 September 2026.

Book the baby's jabs and check-ups
The first two vaccines, BCG and the first dose of hepatitis B, are given in hospital at birth and recorded in the health booklet you take home. Checked against cda.gov.sg on 22 September 2026.
