The scans and screening
Since the antenatal service began moving to the Hospital Authority on 6 July 2026, the scans and screening are arranged by the hospital obstetrics department that took your booking rather than by a Maternal and Child Health Centre — that much is on the government's announcement. What else to know
The schedule itself is general information, not an official timetable: no Department of Health or Hospital Authority page sets these weeks out. In practice you can expect a dating scan at the first visit, Down syndrome screening in the first trimester (a nuchal translucency scan with a blood test, with NIPT available privately as a more accurate paid option), and a structural scan of the baby's organs in the second trimester. A private obstetrician bills them per visit or inside an antenatal package; ask what is included, because the extra growth scans private doctors like to add are the part that runs up the bill.
