Claim the Newborn Baby Bonus if either of you is a permanent resident

A one-off HK$20,000 for a baby born in Hong Kong when either parent is a permanent resident at the time of the application, and HK$30,000 for a second or later child born from September 2026. The scheme now runs to 24 October 2029, and the extended period carries a higher amount for a second or later child. Checked against cso.gov.hk on 22 September 2026.

You apply at the Births Registry when you register the birth, or online with iAM Smart within six months. Parents who are both here on work visas do not qualify — permanent residence needs seven years of ordinary residence first.
