Claim the Newborn Baby Bonus if either of you is a permanent resident
A one-off HK$20,000 for a baby born in Hong Kong on or after 25 October 2023, where either parent is a Hong Kong permanent resident at the time of the application. Checked against cso.gov.hk on 22 September 2026.

What else to know
For a second or later child born in Hong Kong between 16 September 2026 and 24 October 2029 it is HK$30,000 instead, and the first or elder child must also have been born in Hong Kong — children born elsewhere are not counted. The scheme runs to 24 October 2029. Apply at the Births Registry when you register the birth within 42 days, or through Immigration's online birth registration system if you are a registered iAM Smart+ user; either way, no later than 6 calendar months after the birth. It is paid per baby, so twins born inside the extended window can draw HK$20,000 and HK$30,000.
