The whooping-cough vaccination in pregnancy (22-wekenprik)
From week 22 you are offered a whooping-cough vaccination, given by youth health care (JGZ) at the consultatiebureau. It is free, part of the national immunisation programme, and voluntary — but it is recommended in every pregnancy, because the antibodies cross to the baby and cover the weeks before their own vaccinations can. What else to know
You book it yourself rather than waiting to be invited, and you bring ID and your citizen service number (BSN). It also changes what happens after the birth: if you have had it, the baby's main course of vaccinations starts at 3 months instead of at 6 to 9 weeks.
